Rancon Cars Ltd has officially launched the locally assembled Proton X70 SUV in Bangladesh for Tk38.5 lakh, significantly lowering its cost from the previous Tk44–48 lakh range. The launch took place on 30 April 2025 at the Proton Bangladesh Rancon showroom in Tejgaon, Dhaka, marking a key achievement for the nation’s growing automotive manufacturing sector.
“All units of the X70 SUVs are now proudly made in Bangladesh at the Rancon Industrial Park in Gazipur,” said Muhammad Mostafizur Rashid Bhuiyan, Director of Rancon Cars, during the launch event. He emphasized that local production makes world-class SUVs more accessible to Bangladeshi consumers while strengthening the country’s industrial capabilities.
The Proton X70, a Malaysian brand developed under Proton Holdings in collaboration with Geely (the parent company of Volvo and Lotus), has been praised for combining modern design, technology, and affordability.
Distinctive Design and Premium Features
The 2025 Proton X70 showcases a bold and elegant design, led by Proton’s signature “Infinite Weave” grille, flanked by Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC) headlamps, Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs), and auto rain-sensing wipers. Its panoramic sunroof provides an open, airy feel to the cabin, while the 19-inch alloy wheels and 200 mm ground clearance make it suitable for both urban and off-road driving in Bangladesh.
Inside, the SUV is equipped with a smart infotainment system featuring the voice command “Hi PROTON”, online navigation, music streaming, weather updates, and smartphone connectivity. Multiple USB ports, keyless entry, and drive mode selection enhance comfort and usability. A 360-degree camera and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) offer safety features tailored for Bangladesh’s unpredictable road conditions.
Engine, Safety, and Performance
Under the hood, the Proton X70 is powered by a 1.5L TGDi turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) featuring manual mode for smooth, responsive driving.
Key safety features include:
-
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) for maintaining safe distances in traffic.
-
Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) for collision prevention.
-
Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) to enhance awareness on congested roads.
These systems not only improve driving confidence but also make the X70 well-suited for Bangladesh’s crowded urban environments and highway routes.
Rancon’s Vision for Bangladesh’s Automotive Future
At the launch, Md Badiuzzaman, Executive Director of Rancon Auto Industries, highlighted that the company’s commitment to assembling vehicles locally upholds Proton’s international quality standards. “Each vehicle reflects our dedication to world-class craftsmanship and represents a major step forward for Bangladesh’s automotive industry,” he said.
Rancon Cars Director Mostafizur Rashid added that with the increasing demand for premium SUVs in Bangladesh, Proton aims to become a market leader in the segment. The collaboration with Geely ensures that the X70 continues to evolve with cutting-edge global technology and modern design elements.
