The FJ Cruiser is a true off-road vehicle that draws on the styling and heritage of the classic Toyota FJ40 that started life back in the 1960s and kept alive all the way into the 1980s. Aside from new LED tail lamps, almost everything externally has been left unchanged for the refresh, including the white roof, unique grille and wrap-around rear side windows, all signature elements of the original FJ40. The FJ Cruiser has two main forward-hinged doors and two smaller rear-hinged access doors that open to 90 degrees for rear-seat access. In Saudi Arabia, the base FJ gets a manual gearbox, power steering, power windows, manual side mirrors, central locking, manual A/C, radio & CD player/USB/AUX support, water-resistant fabric seats, front fog lamps, full-time 4x4, rear diff-lock and 17-inch alloy wheels; the base automatic gets part-time 4x4, side-step, rear-window wiper, smaller fuel tank, no traction control and no rear diff-lock; the FJ 1 gets power mirrors, Bluetooth, steering wheel with audio and telephone controls, rear parking sensors, iPod support, driver arm rest, 10 JBL speakers & subwoofer, rear-view camera, spare wheel cover and no diff lock; the FJ 2 gets rear diff-lock, front skid plate, traction control, wi-fi and two-hitch. Safety features include standard front airbags as well as ABS and vehicle stability control. In Saudi Arabia, the top model gets side airbags as well. A new TRD version was launched in the UAE in 2015 as well, which gets a new skid plate, TRD coil springs and shock absorbers, and black side sill protectors,
